Covestro’s 2023 launch covered cars and wind turbines
Changhua’s TPU line accompanied the Desmopan UP launch.
In May 2023, Covestro reported opening a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) line at its existing Changhua site and launching Desmopan UP. The investment was announced in 2022.
Covestro’s earlier expansion notice described a multi-million-US-dollar project combining PPF capacity and research facilities at Changhua. It said the expansion would be ready by 2023 and emphasized the site’s proximity to mainland China. That records the intended spending and timetable; it gives no exact investment total or annual production tonnage.
Covestro named wind blades and device screens as potential uses, with products intended for global availability. It did not quantify shipments.
For context, Covestro’s wind-protection page, checked October 18, 2026, separates coatings, protective shells, films and TPU materials. It lists Desmopan UP in the TPU section, while Dureflex and Platilon appear among surface-protection films.
That distinction gives buyers a useful next question: what, exactly, has been tested? Ask for the finished product’s test conditions and intended application before treating a resin name as evidence that an automotive film suits a different job.

- The releases do not quantify finished-film output or prove comparative performance.
- The wind page supplies present-day context, not proof of a specific turbine installation in 2023.
May 19 dates the announcement; inauguration day is unverified. The plan and wind pages are undated.
