Compare quotes and installersFilms can need different preparation and installation methods. Find the instructions for the product you’re using.
Read the installation guideSeparate the substrate assessment from cleaning the finished film. Identify repaint and coating questions before selecting a process.
The exact film decides. Compare the wet-application APAC references with the North American PrismaPro dry-apply limitation; do not combine their procedures.
Understand how the selected workflow relates to panel coverage and boundaries. Review the actual plan rather than assuming a method guarantees wrapped edges or a particular result.
Agree the visible boundaries first. Continue to the existing seams and complex-panels sections, then study the instructions for the selected film.
Tools & methods
From squeegees to cutting software, here’s what the main PPF tools are used for. The linked manufacturer guides cover setup instructions and product-specific details.
On wet-applied films, squeegees help move the application liquid out from under the film. Smaller tools reach edges and tight areas. The 3M instructions cover tool use for its films; the Yellotools guide shows different shapes and firmer or softer edges.
A squeegee brings the working edge against the film. With wet-applied PPF, that includes moving application liquid out from beneath it. A full-size tool handles the open part of a panel; a small detail tool helps where trim, corners or a narrow return leave little room.
Compare width, edge shape, stiffness and reach separately. A narrow tool is not automatically softer, and a wider one does not necessarily have the edge shape you need. Some families offer the same size in different constructions. Others put several edge profiles into one tool or shrink the working end for detail access.
Choose with the intended film and working area in front of you. Color names only identify a maker’s own variants, so use the full model and size when comparing or reordering. The examples below include both broader squeegees and purpose-made detail formats.
Name the area your current tool cannot comfortably reach. Then compare width, edge shape, stiffness and room for your hand separately. A different color alone is not a reason to buy another tool.
Use a demonstration to compare the change you actually need. The Avery PPF Squeegee Pro family separates size from Flex/Rigid construction; APE Duo offers several working-edge angles; Z-Sticks provide smaller detail formats. The product examples below explain those differences. Sources: Avery Dennison PPF Squeegee Pro Series overview, Europe; Yellotools APE Duo product details; Yellotools Z-Sticks product details.
Record the full model and variant, the film used, the area demonstrated and what was easier to reach. That gives the purchase a purpose and makes reordering clearer.
Use the film-specific instructions for technique. A tool trial is not a universal pressure or application recommendation.
Avery Dennison
PPF application squeegee family with separate size and stiffness choices.
Small is 65 × 75 mm; Large is 100 × 75 mm. Red is flexible and blue is rigid within this family. Do not confuse PPF Squeegee Pro with the separately listed felt-sided Squeegee Pro vinyl-application products. ANZ overview uses TM-316 ordering codes; match the local catalogue.
Yellotools GmbH
Multi-layer trapezoidal squeegee for wet PPF and window-film application.
Wet-application use is explicit; this is not a universal tool prescription for dry-apply color PPF. Manufacturer labels are DuoRed 65/95 Shore D and DuoGreen 75/95 Shore D; those labels do not establish equivalence with another brand’s color codes.
Yellotools GmbH
Layered squeegee with pointed working-edge geometry for PPF and window film.
Manufacturer dimensions are 10 × 7 cm and 12.5 × 7 cm; retain its figures instead of recalculating rounded inch names. The product page does not specify a universal PPF pressure setting.
Yellotools GmbH
Miniature multi-layer squeegees for PPF detail areas.
Duo and Sandwich are distinct selectable variants. No verified dimensions or hardness ratings were found on the reviewed product page.
For wet installation, a sprayer applies the solution used to position the film. Use the film instructions for the mix and the IK manual for permitted liquids and pressure limits. The safety sheets explain handling, storage and protective equipment for the specific chemical.
A sprayer puts the chosen application liquid where it is needed. A handheld bottle keeps the supply close to your hand. A tank-and-hose setup changes how much equipment you carry around the vehicle and where the liquid is stored. A compatible compressor can reduce repeated hand pumping without changing the sprayer itself.
There are two compatibility questions: whether the liquid is suitable for the film, and whether it is suitable for the sprayer’s tank, seals, hose and valve. Resolve both. Then look at nozzle options, useful reach, refill access and replacement parts. Check what comes in the box, especially when a compressor needs a separate connecting hose.
Do not choose by maximum pressure alone. A safety-valve rating, a compressor’s output and the application conditions for a particular film describe different things. A readable exact-model manual and a clear parts list are useful features in their own right.
Picture where the tank would stand, how the hose would move around the vehicle and where you would refill. Then ask for an itemized quote: a bottle, a tank and a compressor bundle can include very different parts.
Mark each item as included, separately priced or awaiting confirmation. Check whether the proposed liquid is suitable for both the film and the sprayer.
For the IK Window tinting & PPF tank, reference 83371, the IK Battery compressor, reference 82678900, needs the 62 cm compressed-air hose, reference 82678604. That connection is separate from the dispensing hose, so “hose included” is not a complete answer. Sources: IK Battery compressor, reference 82678900; IK 62 cm compressed air hose, reference 82678604.
IK’s reviewed product page says 13 L usable capacity while its handbook says 12 L; hose descriptions also differ. Ask the supplier to confirm the delivered version and matching instructions. The discrepancy does not establish a redesign. Sources: IK Window tinting & PPF, reference 83371; IK Window Tinting & PPF sprayer instructions.
Use the exact-model manual for service. Another sprayer’s repair procedure or replacement interval may not apply.
Avery Dennison
Handheld bottle for distributing liquid during wet film application.
Official brochure explicitly pairs the bottle with Avery Dennison Application Gel; that doesn’t mean compatibility with arbitrary solvents. The reviewed source provides no pressure specification or general chemical-resistance table.
Goizper / IK Sprayers
Stainless-steel pressure sprayer marketed for PPF, tint and wrapping.
The exact-model manual permits neutral-soap solutions and sealants but excludes acids, alkalis, corrosive and flammable liquids. Film compatibility is a separate check. Usable-capacity and hose-length descriptions conflict across current official materials; confirm the supplied model before ordering. Safety-valve rating is not a recommended spraying pressure.
Goizper / IK Sprayers
Battery-powered compressor accessory for compatible IK sprayers.
IK lists its Window tinting & PPF among supported models. The 62 cm compressed-air hose, reference 82678604, is necessary for the PPF sprayer. Manufacturer describes 18 V power and up to 2.5 bar; that is equipment capability, not a PPF spray recommendation.
Handling stations support film while it is prepared; cutting plotters follow a digital pattern, and hand tools help finish the planned edges. They work alongside installation training and a coverage plan for the vehicle. Follow the film’s instructions for removing the liner and any protective cap sheet.
This part of the workshop helps turn a roll of film into a manageable piece for a panel. The equipment serves different stages: a handling station supports the material, a plotter follows a prepared cut path, and finishing tools address the planned boundaries of the installation. Match the purchase to the stage that needs help.
A peel board provides a dedicated surface for film handling. Its size also affects the room around it: where it can stand, how sheets reach the vehicle and how the station moves through the shop. Check the full assembly list before pricing it. Some systems require separately sourced glass, so the frame alone is not the complete purchase.
XPEL
Caster-mounted glass-and-rail peel-board station.
Glass is not included. The V1.1 guide specifies 3/16-inch tempered glass, 48 × 120.5 inches. Assembly documentation establishes the frame and components, not a measured contamination or labor-time advantage.
A cutting plotter turns a digital path into a cut in the loaded material. Look beyond the model’s headline width. The width a machine can load, its working cut area and the area covered by a tracking specification can differ. The proposed film, holder, software and connection also need to work together. Ask for a demonstration using the actual pattern workflow you intend to run.
Choose a vehicle, panel, film and coverage plan, then ask the supplier to demonstrate the complete setup. A roll fitting into the machine does not prove the pattern fits its supported cutting area, and a pattern opening on screen does not prove the cutter can produce it.
Use the same brief for each supplier. Ask for a written summary of what was demonstrated and what is still unconfirmed. Keep vehicle-pattern access separate from bundled graphics software and cutter connectivity.
Include the installed firmware version, which identifies the software running inside the cutter. Graphtec’s FC9000 firmware 2.12 notes, dated 22 July 2026, identify a fix for skipped portions of cuts in FILM mode. Check whether that documented issue is relevant to the setup being demonstrated. Sources: FC9000 Firmware Release Notes 2.12.
The model cards below show why width, configuration and software conditions matter. Use exact-model instructions for setup rather than transferring cutting presets between films.
Graphtec
Cut PPF patterns from roll media before installation.
FILM mode requires firmware 2.00 or later. FILM mode is incompatible with AREA SORT and increases cutting time. Set blade exposure and cutting conditions for the actual media; setup manual prescribes a test cut. Graphtec’s included graphics software doesn’t mean a vehicle-pattern library or any particular pattern-platform licence is included. The optional take-up system is model-specific: FC9000-140 and FC9000-160. The FC9000 manual says third-party output must end with an end command such as H/PG; ending with a drawing command such as D/PD may not work correctly.
Summa
Cut wide PPF patterns with a tangential-knife workflow.
2026 brochure: normal working width 158 cm; accepted media 17–168 cm. The product page and technical brochure use different width labels; confirm the supplied specification. Confirm the required usable area with supplier before choosing a machine. Oversized mode does not retain the stated tracking guarantee. The standard T model does not include the TC camera/performance head. Brochure’s 1.2 mm maximum requires a sandblast tangential knife; it is not a universal PPF capability or cutting preset. The generic official DAP connection note uses Ethernet and HPGL; exact software/version/cutter support still needs validation.
Finishing tools control how a planned boundary is made. A protected-head knife changes the geometry around a blade; cutting tape uses a filament beneath the film. These are different approaches, with different access and material requirements. Start with the intended edge and the film manufacturer’s process, then check whether the particular tool supports it. A product name containing ‘safe’ or ‘knifeless’ does not settle every compatibility question.
Yellotools GmbH
Film knife with a protective plastic nose in front of a stainless-steel scalpel blade.
Manufacturer explicitly names PPF and full vehicle wrapping, but gives no film-thickness acceptance range in the reviewed page. A protective nose doesn’t mean that every cut on a vehicle is risk-free. Replacement head and matching WrapDefender blades are model-specific parts.
3M
Trim film along a planned line during installation.
Test and approve the actual PPF before use. The dedicated 2019 PPF procedure is for 3M PPF; do not generalize it to every brand or topcoat. Cover tape and moisture removal matter to the stated procedure. Do not wrap the filament around a hand or fingers; dispose of it promptly. No current release date or recent material change was verified.
Cutting software helps you find panel shapes for a vehicle, adjust them and arrange them on the film. The 3M, XPEL and Eastman pages explain how their systems work. Check the vehicle, panel, template fit and compatible plotters before cutting; the overview pages don’t include free cut files.
